Louise Townend graduated with her PhD entitled “Targeting healthy weight? How the ideologies and discourses underpinning the policies addressing South Australia’s Healthy Weight Target (2007) affect health equity.”
Her research is a great example of the critical approach Southgate researchers take to public health policies. In her thesis she raises issues about the way policies designed to tackle the obesity epidemic are undermined by ideologies that limit their effectiveness. Louise celebrated her success with a party with families and friends and a wonderful tower cake which might not encourage healthy weight!
