The Vienna Space Internship Program: Gain Real-World Experience in Space Exploration
Every year, Flinders sends students to The Vienna Space Internship Program, offering students the chance to spend up to 8 weeks in Vienna, exploring how law and policy impact space activities with the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI). Interns will work on space law and policy issues, collaborate with the European Space Agency, and may attend UN meetings on space. The program provides valuable hands-on experience in the intersection of space law, policy, and security, while building professional connections with key stakeholders.
What do our students have to say about the program?
“Vienna is a spectacular city, with so much to offer from art, culture and history. I have tried to make the most of my weekends and evenings in Vienna, from seeing famous artworks such as Klimt’s “the Kiss” at Belveder Castle, to strolling the beautiful cathedrals, taking in the bibliosmia of the old texts in the Australian National library and adventuring the historic areas of Vienna (to name a few). The Vienna Internship has truly been such a wonderful experience so far, and I cannot wait to see what the next half brings!”

“It was very clear that everyone in the office shares a great passion for space, including creating a safe future where all actors can contribute and thrive. I hope our project shows we share that passion, especially for Australia and our future in the space industry.”

“We have experienced living in a country so closely connected to others, a 2-hour train ride lands you into another country with another, language, national cuisine and perspective on life. We have attended concerts and balls, seminars and conferences, and worked on projects ranging from Earth Observation to Space-based data centres. We have had opportunities to network and take our theoretical skills into the real word, from lunchtime debates on global issues to developing our understanding of countries perspectives and motivators.”
