Central Library is getting an upgrade

Work to refurbish Level 1 of the Central Library is starting soon, with closures beginning Monday 24 August.

The refurbishment will run through to November and will bring some changes to how you access library services during this time.

What’s happening?

A significant part of Level 1 will close from Monday 24 August, with refurbishment works beginning on Monday 31 August.

Some Level 1 services will be temporarily relocated while the work is underway. You may also hear some noise from the building works.

You’ll see signs around the library with more information about the planned improvements.

What will still be open?

You can continue to access:

  • Levels 0, 2 and 3 via the lifts. Please follow the directional signs.
  • The Northern Wing, including HDR Central and the Disability Space, via the lifts. Please follow the directional signs.
  • The returns chute.

Pop-up library in the Student Hub

A pop-up library will be available in the Student Hub on Level 2.

You’ll be able to collect Holds and Document Delivery items from the pop-up library during staffed hours.

Changes to accessible paths

The North Ridge Accessible Path will also temporarily change during the refurbishment.

The usual walkway through Central Library Level 1 between the Student Hub and Matthew Flinders Theatre/Laneway will be closed.

Instead, please use:

  • The lifts behind Security or in the Student Hub, and
  • The outdoor undercover path in the Plaza, past Flinders Connect and Security on Library Level 0.

Signs will be in place to help you find your way, and Library staff are available to help with directions during the works.
