For student Mia Bodman, Flinders University was always part of the plan. With her mum working at the University for more than a decade, the Bedford Park Campus felt less like a place she chose, and more like a place she belonged.
Now in her third year of a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree, Mia is determined to make her university experience count.
“I want to finish my studies with more than just a degree,” she says, which she’s certainly on the right track to doing. Always open to new opportunities, Mia balances multiple jobs while diving headfirst into her role as President of the Flinders Business Student Association (FBSA).
“I stepped into the role at a time of significant change as we’d had a big turnover of the student committee in mid-2024 and I wasn’t sure what the role would involve…. but now, I love it,” says Mia.
Since taking the reins, Mia has helped the committee grow from three members to sixteen, is currently in negotiations to secure FBSA sponsors and is driven by a strong sense of student advocacy. “We want to showcase what Flinders has to offer – the resources, the community, and the support available to students. We want everyone to feel like they belong here,” Mia says.
As part of her degree, Mia recently completed her industry placement with Little Lion PR, a boutique public relations agency specialising in corporate, lifestyle and community brand events. “This has been one of my favourite parts of my degree, nothing teaches you more than being on the ground, learning on the job and putting university theory into real-world practice,” Mia says.
Outside of Uni, Mia makes the most of her downtime by running and heading to the beach with her labradoodle, Indie. “With everything I’ve got going on, it’s so important to take time out and check in on my mental health,” she says. “Running and beach walks with Indie help me reset.”
From campus connection to committee leadership, Mia is embracing every chance to grow and proving that university is about much more than lectures and textbooks.
