Researchers kickstart projects with COVID-19 grants

Grants have been awarded to Caring Futures Institute researchers across multiple disciplines in Flinders University’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences towards research projects that explore health or community care needs related to the COVID-19 response.

The needs of marginalised groups during coronavirus isolation, how parents are coping with family life and the evaluation of a home tele-monitoring program for patients with chronic conditions are among the research projects which have won funding under two COVID-19 grant schemes.

The two schemes include the Agility Research Grant which aims to support researchers to adapt an existing project that has been affected by COVID-19 and the Collaborative Research Grant, which aims to support research projects related to health or communication care needs that are affected by COVID-19.

Among the successful applications is a research project into the needs of marginalised groups affected by COVID-19 isolation measures including families facing homelessness, people with disability needing daily support and older Chinese speakers with little English.

Another research project will examine how parents are managing family life during COVID-19, and the pandemic’s impact on parents’ self-care behaviours.

Twenty one applications were received across both grant schemes. Priority was given to those that focused on disadvantaged and marginalised groups, health and well-being, consumer literacy, and health and care practice during and post COVID-19.
