We are pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Frances Lin to the role of Director of Flinders University Caring Futures Institute and Dean of Research for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Frances joined Flinders University in 2023 and was appointed as an Institute Deputy Director early last year. Professor Lin is a strategic leader, internationally recognised for her work in implementation science and quality and safety health service research in critical care, which positions her well to lead the Institute to create better care through research, knowledge translation and partnerships.
Professor Lin has many years of experience in critical care nursing practice, education and research in Australia and China. Her current research program focuses on optimising critically ill patients’ journey through emergency departments, intensive care units, and the wards.
Professor Lin shared, “I will continue to foster a strong collaborative research culture, build high performing teams, and develop and nurture the next generation of healthcare researchers. I am looking forward to working with our team at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Caring Futures Institute.”
Professor Michelle Miller, Flinders Nursing and Health Sciences Interim Vice President and Executive Dean, congratulated Professor Lin on the appointment, “Frances is a highly respected and committed educator and researcher who has made significant contributions to our College in the short time she has been with us. Her leadership experience and research expertise will greatly benefit our team, and we are confident that the College will continue to advance under her leadership.”
Professor Miller acknowledged and thanked Professor Rebecca Golley for her dedication and significant contribution to the development and growth of the institute since its inception in 2019, “Bec has been instrumental in the development and growth of the Caring Futures Institute as the inaugural Deputy Director. During the final weeks of 2023, when Professor Ray Chan was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor Research, Bec stepped in as Interim Dean (Research) and Interim Director of the Institute. Bec has directed the Institute’s leadership focus toward activities that support the conduct of excellent research, support researcher career development, and increase the reputation and standing of Flinders University.”
Professor Golley reflected, “It has been a privilege to work with and support the amazing researchers at Flinders Caring Futures Institute. With a strong research strategy in place, Frances has the right combination of skills, experience and networks to deliver our shared vision of the best care being accessible for all.”
Professor Lin is a Fellow and Life Member of Australian College of Critical Care Nurses and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is an Associate Editor of the Elsevier journal, “Intensive and Critical Care Nursing”. She maintains strong relationships locally, nationally and internationally.
Professor Lin will lead the Caring Futures Institute in delivery of the Research Strategy 2024 – 2028.
