Your FAQs

Each month we will share some of our timely frequently asked questions around educational technology.

Q: How do I check exactly what grades students can see in gradebook?

A: You can preview grades as a student would see them by viewing the user report within gradebook. In your FLO topic, go to the Navigation menu and select Grades. Under the View tab, click the User report link and select a student from the dropdown menu on the right, making sure that View report as is set to ‘User’.

For more information see the Gradebook help documentation on the eLearning Gateway.

Q: I need to export grades from my topic in FLO for exam board. How do I achieve that?

A: You can take data from your gradebook and export it to your own computer. In FLO, go to the Navigation menu, select Grades and then click the Export tab. Gradebook values can be exported to an Excel spreadsheet (recommended), an XML file, or a Plain text file (CSV). If you only need to download certain gradebook items, untick the ones that you don’t need.

By default, gradebook exports grades in real numbers. To export grades as percentages or letters, tick the required checkbox for Grade export display types from the Export format options settings. For more information see the Gradebook help documentation on the eLearning Gateway.

Note: Your college may have an existing process to support topic coordinators with the export. If unsure, please contact your local SAS team or eLearning support team.

Q: I’ve exported grades from gradebook for exam board and would like to prevent any changes to the grades. Is that possible?

A: Yes, you can lock grade items in the gradebook to prevent further changes to the grades. It is also possible to set a date when grade items should be locked. In FLO, go to the Administration menu and select Gradebook setup. For the grade item you wish to lock, click the Edit link to the right of the item and select Edit settings. For more information see the Gradebook help documentation on the eLearning Gateway.
