Research Data Management as a Service – Contract Execution with Digital Science for Figshare solution and implementation start

In 2020, Digital Research Services and the Library started working in partnership on the Research Data Management as a Service project. The aims of the project are to

  • Increase discoverability and accessibility of Flinders research data assets associated with Flinders world class research
  • Improve the management of research data assets associated with Flinders research
  • Capture institutional value from Flinders research data assets.
  • Review the current research data management policy framework at Flinders with advice and recommendations for change

A key deliverable in meeting these aims was the selection of an institutional research data management repository solution. After a tender process, Figshare for Institutions by Digital Science was selected as the successful solution. An agreement for the procurement and implementation of the solution between Flinders University and Digital Science was entered into in December 2020

Digital Research Services, the Library and Digital Science will work in partnership with a pilot group in the Flinders research community to implement Figshare for Institutions into the Flinders environment. Implementation will start in January 2020 with completion scheduled for March/April 2021. Implementation and rollout of the solution beyond the pilot group in 2021 will be dependent on additional resources being available.
