We are excited to let staff know that the Compass Program team is now in the final stages of developing a new student portal to be released in phases this year. Here are some of the exciting new student portal features under development:
- A newly designed look and feel, and intuitive and easy to follow lay out and navigation of content across students.flinders.edu.au
- Ability for students to tailor content to suit their needs (such as by college, international/domestic student, online student specific, etc)
- A log-in function that enables students to view a custom dashboard displaying their personal information and details of their study journey including their timetable – the number one feature requested by students
- An enjoyable and seamless online experience which makes sense of the complex myriad of university systems.
We have been working with students, including the Student View Group, on the development of the student portal over the past 18 months. The group has helped identify student problems and look at the features that will help solve these through the student portal. We will soon be actively reaching out to the whole student community through various communication channels to seek wider input and to promote the portal.
We will also continue to work with specific business units that provide support and services to our students to ensure a collaborative approach in developing and implementing the portal. This will maximise our opportunity to build a student portal which addresses our key objective, to simplify the way students access and engage with university support and services.
About the Compass Program
Backed by our Project Sponsor, Prof. Clare Pollock, Senior Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) the Compass Program is a student centred program, run by Digital Student and Teaching Services in collaboration with Student Experience. The program aims to simplify how students find out about, access and engage with support and services available at Flinders and the university community, to improve and support student experience and success.
