Excerpt from the Director’s email:
I would like to pay tribute to Graeme for his vision, determination and support for FCIC. Graeme (in both his university and clinical service roles), together with Deb Heithersay of Flinders Foundation, took FCIC from a concept to establishment. This required patience, more than a decade of hard work, and negotiation skills par excellence – all driven by belief in the vision of a truly comprehensive cancer centre, where service is informed by research and vice versa. Graeme was Director of FCIC Development through the fundraising and building phases and, once established, he continued to steer the Centre as Chair of the governance committee, overseeing the finalisation of the terms of reference document that underpins the FCIC partnership of SALHN, Flinders Foundation and Flinders University. Paul Worley was also instrumental in the foundation of FCIC, supporting Graeme and the vision for FCIC throughout its evolution and bringing his influence to bear when needed. Thank you to both Graeme and Paul, our gratitude is immense.
While there is always some sadness when valued leaders step down, it is an opportunity for all of us to ensure their legacy flourishes. The appointment of Mr Paul Teisseire as Chair of the governance committee is one that I am confident will build on what we have created and guide FCIC into its next phase. Paul has a background as a corporate lawyer specialising in business and international law with a special interest in corporate governance and joint ventures, and he is a member of several corporate boards. Please make him feel welcome and I am sure he will be eager to meet as many of you as possible in the coming months.
