Flinders researchers and the Ethiopian community in Adelaide recently came together to participate in a community workshop aimed at improving nutrition and sleep health in the Ethiopian community.
The community healthy lifestyle awareness workshop was led by Dr. Yohannes Adama Melaku, Senior Research Fellow, from the College of Medicine and Public Health and Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI).
Funded by ECR Kickstart Grants from Flinders University, the content of the workshop was based on Yohannes’ research relating to sleep and eating behaviours of Ethiopian community members in Adelaide.
“Our findings show that unhealthy eating and sleep problems are common among the Ethiopian community,” says Dr Melaku.
“We wanted to share our findings in detail with the community and offer culturally appropriate recommendations on how they can improve their sleep and dietary behaviours.”
