Learning and engagement: guest speaker

Science students need to navigate large lecture classes during their university education. Lectures can often be isolating, and range from being difficult to concentrate in, to exciting and invigorating. To transform lectures from the former to the latter is no trivial task.

In this technologically savvy world, is it possible to develop quick and easy ways of transforming lectures that many can use, such that one does not revert to ‘death by powerpoint’?

This seminar, Where learning and engagement begins, will focus on strategies for improving lectures with a focus on the role of evidence to inform changing practices.

While focused on science students, the principles of this seminar are transferable to other disciplines and staff from all faculties are welcome to attend.

The presenter is Professor Manjula Sharma, physicist, OLT National Teaching Fellow and Director of the Institute for Innovation in Science & Mathematics Education at the University of Sydney.

The lecture will be held on Wednesday 26 February  from 10.30 to 11.30am in Physical Sciences 0007.
