Marion Library hosts an extraordinary author

Flinders staff and students are invited to join Marion Library Service at the upcoming Meet the Author event featuring Dr Munjed Al Muderis and his remarkable and inspiring memoir, Walking Free.

An Iraqi living under Saddam Hussein’s regime, Dr Munjed Al Muderis  was working as a doctor in a Baghdad hospital when the army requested that he remove the ears of deserters. His refusal meant he had to flee Iraq, and he came via a people smuggling boat to Australia. On his release from detention, lack of recognition of his qualifications necessitated that he retrain as a doctor. Now, 15 years later, he is at the forefront of orthopaedic medicine in Australia.

The event is on Monday 29 September from 7pm to 8pm (followed by book signing) at Marion Cultural Centre Domain Theatre, 287 Diagonal Road, Oaklands Park. The event is free but bookings are essential: phone 8375 6785.
