Filming Coetzee

The title is Contingencies of Discourse: ‘Dust’, the first J.M. Coetzee film

Brian Macaskill offers some genre- and gender-prompted reflections on the first completed adaptation of a J.M. Coetzee novel, Marion Hänsel’s Dust (1985). Hansel’s film won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and is based on Nobel-laureate Coetzee’s second multiply prize-winning novel, In the Heart of the Country.

The film Dust will be screened following Brian’s lecture for those who wish to stay.

Professor Macaskill offers seminars in literary theory and related arts at John Carroll University in Ohio, USA, and has published widely on J.M. Coetzee.
