Footsteps of Colour: the 2015 Multicultural Festival on campus

The University’s international student community will be showcasing its diverse music, song, dance-forms and cuisines from 13 to 15 May in the Courtyard of the Sturt Buildings in the annual Multicultural Festival.

The event was created in 2013 as a platform for international and local students to have a place to learn about each other’s cultures, and to enhance campus culture as well as student engagement. We believe that the best conversation are always shared over meals and music, bringing them together “under the same sky” (which was 2013’s theme). Therefore, this festival will be showcasing the traditional cuisines as well as performances from all the participating countries.

The symbolic theme for this year’s festival is “Footsteps of Colours”. “Colours” symbolizes the multitude of cultures within the student community, with each individual coming from a different background, culture, and country. “Footsteps” symbolises the journey we would like our participants to begin with us over the period of the three-day festival. Footsteps of Colours is essentially an invitation to Flinders students to take a cultural journey around the world without having to leave the campus.

This year, the event has an overwhelming response from the student clubs/associations. With 32 performances and 12 food and activity stalls scheduled over three days, this festival will definitely offset winter with an atmosphere of warmth and colour.
