Health awareness events and resources for July

Here are some health awareness events and resources for July complied by the Work Health and Safety Unit

  • Dry July, is a fundraiser that challenges you to go alcohol-free for a month to support adults living with cancer.
  • JulEYE, eye health awareness month, get your eyes tested this JulEYE.
  • National Diabetes Week, 12-18 July – Diabetes Australia celebrates National Diabetes Week. The campaign aims to educate the community about the risk factors for type 2 diabetes and how this disease can be prevented.
  • Sleep Awareness Week, 6-12 July – an annual event aimed at creating awareness about the importance and quality of sleep. Regularly getting sufficient sleep is important for your health, sense of wellbeing and ability to manage at home and work. When you sleep better, you feel better. Sleep research undertaken by the School of Psychology.
  • Smoke Alarm Awareness Week, 20-26 July – aims to raise public awareness about the importance of working smoke alarms, regularly checking them and replacing them when they reach their expiry date.
  • Stress Down Day, 24 July, an annual event held by Lifeline dedicated to creating awareness around the importance of reducing the burden of stress on our community.

EAP – Employee Assistance Program, an independent counselling service is available to University staff members who are experiencing work related or personal problems. This service is confidential, up to 3 consults paid for by the University, for further details see WHS unit web page.

Oasis – Take a meditation break, Buddhist study group weekly meditation at the Tonsley Campus each Thursday 12.45-1.30pm, all welcome. Contact Oasis for further details.
