Nursing academic commended on WHO program

Associate Professor Lily Xiao has been commended following her completion of an internship and scholar program with the World Health Organisation (WHO), based in Geneva.

The program enables candidates to learn more about the WHO as a whole as well as the role of nursing and midwifery at the WHO.

During the program, Lily and Canadian colleague Emily Rowland gathered scientific information for strong evidence-based operational work on establishing centres of excellence for a five-year WHO initiative to scale up nursing and midwifery education in a collaborative faith-based project between WHO and Loma Linda University in the US.

They also documented the contribution of nursing and midwifery to WHO high-priority programs such as Maternal and Child health, HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria and non-communicable diseases.

School of Nursing and Midwifery Dean Professor Paul Arbon commended Associate Professor Xiao’s work as “an exceptional contribution to international health”.
