Flinders part of Destination Adelaide Plan for Malaysia

Positioning Adelaide as a safe, vibrant destination of choice for international students is one of the key aims of a new plan launched in Kuala Lumpur as part of South Australia’s continuing trade mission to Singapore and Malaysia, led by Premier Jay Wetherill.

Vice-Chancellor Colin Stirling and Pro-Vice Chancellor (International) Professor Nancy Cromar are members of the delegation, which also includes Professor Karen Reynolds, New Venture Institute Director Mr Matt Salier and International Office Director Mr Sebastian Raneskold.

Speaking from Malaysia, Minister for Employment, Higher Education and Skills Gail Gago said the Destination Adelaide Plan had clear goals to bring more international students to Adelaide and enhance their experiences while here.

“The Destination Adelaide Plan is a framework to guide the significant investment of an additional $5.7 million over four years as announced in the 2015-16 State Budget, in line with our state’s economic priorities,” Ms Gago said.

While in Kuala Lumpur, Minister Gago will witness a resigning of a collaborative between Flinders and HELP University, which will facilitate the continuation of the joint Bachelor of Psychological Science and Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) program.

“The program was one of the first joint degrees with an international partner offered by Flinders University, and has led to rich and rewarding engagement with students, academics and alumni in Malaysia,” Professor Stirling said.

The Vice-Chancellor and Professor Cromar will continue on to Indonesia, where they will meet with senior government and university representatives to further Flinders links in teaching and research.
