Getting into high end prime number pairs with Professor Terry Tao

Professor Terence Tao, Fields Medallist and Flinders graduate, will present a free public lecture at Adelaide Town Hall on Monday, September 28.

Professor Tao has returned to Adelaide to attend the 59th annual meeting of the Australian Mathematical Society, which is being hosted by Flinders.

“Twinned” pairs of prime numbers start off close together – 5 and 7, 11 and 13, 41 and 43 – but get further and further apart, eventually becoming separated by millions of numbers.

Professor Tao will introduce his audience to the realms of number theory and the fascinating discoveries made in the bid to answer the question “Is there a largest twin prime pair?”

For registration details, see the event flyer here.
