Health and safety: events and resources for October

Here are some health awareness events and resources for October complied by the Work Health and Safety Unit:

National Safe Work Month – SafeWork SA’s free program of information sessions and workshops that focus on a range of work health and safety topics from Health & Safety Representatives (HSR) to electrical safety, ergonomics and hazardous chemicals.

These free activities will be held in Adelaide metropolitan and selected regional locations throughout October. Please note sessions are filling fast, so staff interested should book sessions as soon as possible. Bookings can be made via this site.

Mental Health Day, 10 October – a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy.

Ride to Work Day, 14 October – the day celebrates the benefits of riding to work and encourages more Australians to ride to work on a regular basis, at Flinders there are a number of sites celebrating this day with a breakfast:
Sports Centre – 6.30am to 8.30am
Sturt (adjacent bike rack next to gym) – 7.30am to 8.30am
Tonsley (front of the building) – 7.30am to 8.30am
Victoria Square (Adelaide City Council event) – 7.00am to 9.00am

National Nutrition Week, 11-17 October – Nutrition Australia and Australia’s fruit and veg industry are encouraging all Australians to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables for better health.

Pink Ribbon Day, 27 October – Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon Day helps raises funds in support of the many thousands of Australian women affected by breast and gynaecological cancers.

Flinders Faculty Fun Run or Walk to be held on Wednesday 14 October from 12 to 1pm, starting at Anchor Court and travelling around the lake, gold coin donation towards raising money for CARE Australia, prize categories awarded, registrations due Monday 12 October, for further information contact sport.fitness@flinders.edu.au
