Professionals Lecture: Leon Lack on sleep

sleepProfessor Phyllis Tharenou, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences invites you and your colleagues to attend the last Professionals’ Lectures Series lecture for 2015 by Professor Leon Lack, School of Psychology.

The lecture is entitled “You snooze, you lose” What Does it Really Mean? The Magical Mystery Sleep Tour across Age, the Day and through the Ages.

Patterns of sleep and wake change dramatically across our lifespan and are different in different cultures and in different historical times. They are strongly shaped by our body clock, which has a stronger influence on the timing of our sleep than you would think.

Although our body clock is pretty stable, people differ by how much it tends to fall behind the solar 24-hour clock making it difficult for some people to live here on earth – Mars might be better with its 25-hour rotation. The good news is that the body clock can be re-timed by light stimulation. But as our light exposure will be systematically changed if South Australia changes to Eastern time, how will it affect our body clock, sleep, and how well we live our lives? All will be revealed in Professor Lack’s presentation.

When: Tuesday 13 October, 3.45 for a 4pm start

Where: Flinders University Victoria Square
