Strong interest its members saw the Flinders STEM: Women Branching Out committee negotiate with the host organisers (Australian Science Innovations) for an extension on the due date of their Curious Minds program at ANU Canberra.

And it paid off.

Megan Sebben, a Flinders’ STEM Women and PhD student in Ground Water Hydrology, who was successful in getting into the program, attended the first session last weekend (12-13 December) in Canberra.

“I am proud to be a member of STEM: Women Branching Out at Flinders, and thank you for your support,” Megan says.

“The weekend in Canberra was great. Apparently there were around 125 applicants for mentor positions, and then another 40 or so enquiries after the closing date, so I am feeling very lucky to have been given this opportunity alongside 20 to 30 very impressive STEM women from around Australia.

“The event was also attended by Professor Brian Schmidt, so it was a great opportunity for the mentees (and mentors) to hear from a Nobel Prize winner.”

The Curious Minds program was featured in a WIN News story on Facebook, and in the Canberra Times.

STEM: Women Branching Out is a 2015 initiative that aims to extend its activities and membership in 2016.
