Hub and Plaza officially opens on Friday

Hub and PlazaAll staff and students are invited to attend the official opening of the Hub and Plaza at 9.30am this Friday.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling said the ceremony and unveiling of a plaque will celebrate the completion of the $63 million development, with its dynamic new spaces and facilities that physically, as well as philosophically, put the student experience at the heart of Flinders,

“This inspirational environment will support and stimulate collaborative learning activities by providing comfortable spaces equipped with the latest technology, offering students a modern, rich and rewarding learning experience,” Professor Stirling said.

He said the Hub will also act as a social hub, providing a cultural venue both for the University and the surrounding community.

On Friday, following Indigenous welcomes, there will be speeches and the unveiling of a plaque. The ceremony will be attended by Federal Education Minister Simon Birmingham, State Education Minister Dr Susan Close and invited VIPs, including former staff, foundation students and representatives of those involved in the construction, among them building contractors Lend Lease, architects Woods Bagot and consulting engineers Mott MacDonald.

Staff and students driving to the campus on Friday should please note that sections of car parks 5 and 6 will be reserved for guests of the University attending the launch.
