The very first Labor government – History Festival lecture

verranPhilip Payton,  Professor of Cornish and Australian Studies at Flinders, will give a lecture on John Verran and South Australia’s (and the World’s) First Labor Government, as part of the 2016 History Festival.

The Don Dunstan Foundation will present the event at 6.30pm in Lecture Theatre 102 of the Napier Building at the University of Adelaide.

1910 was an historic moment in the history of the Labor movement in South Australia – and indeed the world – when a majority Labor Party government was elected for the very first time, with John Verran as Premier. This talk charts the varying fortunes of Verran’s government from election to defeat in 1912.

More information about the lecture is available at the Dunstan Centre website and you can book here.
