Justine Smith elected to executive of world eye research body

JustineFlinders ophthalmology researcher Professor Justine Smith has been elected Executive Vice President of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

Founded in the US in 1928, ARVO is the largest and most respected eye and vision research organisation in the world, and Professor Smith is the first Australian to hold an executive position in the Association.

ARVO advances research worldwide into understanding the visual system and preventing, treating and curing its disorders.

The Association’s membership numbers about 12,000, and nearly half of its members reside in more than 75 countries outside the US. The membership is multidisciplinary and consists of both clinical and basic researchers.
