Try a Pint of Science: first sip with Martin Westwell

MartinFlinders University’s Professor Martin Westwell will kick off the Pint of Science Festival at the Wheatsheaf Hotel in Thebarton next week.

The Festival sees some of world’s best scientific researchers come to pubs across Australia to discuss their latest findings, and there will be lively science presentations at ‘the Wheaty’ on three successive nights, 23, 24 and 25 May.

Tickets are $5, and can be purchased online here. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start.

Program summary:

Monday 23 May, The power of your mind: Listen to Professor Martin Westwell from Flinders University on the neuroscience of creativity, and enjoy a talk by Dr Lachlan Jolly from the University of Adelaide about the influence of genes on your brain development and health.

Tuesday 24 May, From grapes and hops to tasty drops: The science of beer (by Tony Jones from Lion Co) and wine (by Dr David Jeffery from the Department of Wine and Food Science, University of Adelaide).

Wednesday 25 May, Smart medicine: Professor Tom Coenye from Ghent University, Belgium will talk about the communication of bacteria and how this triggers disease in the human body. Professor Clive Prestidge from the University of South Australia will show ways to tackle bacteria with smart medicine.
