Work and health: events and resources for June

A list of health awareness events and resources for June has been complied by the Work Health and Safety Unit.

Quit Smoking personalised telephone health coaching program, Bupa Wellness is offering a free personalised health coaching programme to University staff who are wanting to quit smoking.

Heads Up – Mental health resources – mentally healthy workplaces work better for everyone.

First Aid App (free) – The Red Cross First Aid App is a free, comprehensive pocket guide to first aid and CPR, giving you access to the most up to date First Aid information anytime, anywhere.

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month – to raise awareness of a disease that claims the lives of 77 Australians every week, saving lives through early detection. Red Apple Day – 22 June, Australians are encouraged to support the vital work of Bowel Cancer Australia through the purchase of a Bowel Cancer Awareness Ribbon and apple themed fundraising activities.

National Blood Donor Week – 12-18 June, is the perfect time to tell the world that you’re a donor or a supporter. Flinders University was named the highest blood donation group in South Australia in 2015 at the Australian Red Cross Blood Services’ annual Red25 awards presentation in Adelaide. See more. Men’s Health Week – 13-19 June, encourages communities across Australia to reach out to men, boys and their families to promote health and wellbeing through engaging activities, events and promotions.

Using Research to Inform Retirement Planning and Policy – 14 June, Professionals’ Lecture Series lecture by Associate Professor Joanne Earl of the Flinders Business School will present predictors of retirement adjustment; the significance of resources across various domains including health, wealth, social, cognitive, emotional and motivational; how time perspective predicts retirement planning and strategies for managing finances in the event of a decline in cognitive function.

Oasis A University Centre for hospitality, wellbeing and inclusive spirituality that aims to inspire a culture of care.

Flinders One Fitness are providing wellness programs during semester, zumba, yoga and bootcamp, free to students and a gold coin donation to everyone else, visit the website for further information. Physiotherapy and massage services also available on campus.
