Gala Darwin dinner celebrates Flinders 50th (plus photo gallery)

A gala 50th anniversary event celebrating Flinders in the Northern Territory had an unexpected highlight thanks to a timely fireworks display in Darwin Harbour last Friday night!

More than 100 people, including the Administrator of the Northern Territory, the Honourable John Hardy OAM, gathered at “Pee Wee’s at the Point” to applaud the achievements of Flinders’ people across the NT, from Alice Springs to the Top End.

The event showcased Flinders’ rich history of making a difference, featuring our inspiring people, their remarkable achievements, and our world-changing research.

Deputy Chancellor, Stephen Hains, Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor, Andrew Parkin, and the Chief Executive of the Northern Territory Department of Health, Len Notaras AM, reflected on the the evolution of Flinders and its ground breaking programs in the Territory that are improving lives and promoting resilience in regional and remote communities.

Flinders University’s Dean of Education Professor Paul Worley says it was encouraging for our staff, students and collaborators in the NT to have such senior support for their work.

“We have a great team in the NT who will continue to extend Flinders’ impact across Australia and beyond,” Professor Worley said.

Professor Andrew Parkin reflected that the spirit of the occasion spoke volumes about the spirit of the NT program and the dedication of our NT staff.

Flinders’ Northern Territory facilities are crucial elements in a knowledge network that extends from Adelaide to Darwin, creating a central learning corridor that is unmatched in the nation.
