Indonesian Public Lecture

Flinders Jembatan is delighted to invite you to the Flinders Jembatan Initiative Lecture, The New Maritime Culture in Contemporary Indonesia, featuring key speaker Dr Hilmar Farid, Director General of Culture at Indonesia’s Ministry of Education & Culture.

The event will take place from 4pm on Saturday 24 September in the Banquet Room, Adelaide Festival Centre.

As the largest archipelago in the world, Indonesia has historically been a key maritime hub for trade and cultural exchange.

How does contemporary culture embrace this history and the national ethos of “Unity in Diversity” with a vision towards decentralisation in the world’s fourth largest country by population? What are the intersections between slow tourism, diverse arts and culture and the movement of people across the archipelago in one of the fastest growing economies in the world?
