Flinders University SA’s best in 2016 Australian University Games

aus-uni-gamesThe Flinders University Team has placed highest out of South Australian universities competing in the 2016 Australian University Games held over the mid-semester break in Perth.

A total of 46 Flinders athletes and two team managers represented the University, which placed twelfth overall out of 42 universities.

It is the second best result for Flinders in the Games after finishing tenth in 2015.

Overall, Flinders won a pennant (national championship) in men’s beach volleyball, five individual gold medals in judo and taekwondo, a silver medal and three bronze medals.

Flinders athletes also won nine green and gold national selections. In total, the team of 46 medalled 36 times.

The team’s success is a testament to the hard work of Flinders athletes and the leadership of the student team captains Erin Strong and James Wilson.

Flinders’ participation in the Australian University Games is made possible through funds from the student services and amenities fee, which were used to support the program.
