Marine biotechnology public seminar

The Centre for Marine Bioproducts Development (CMBD) and Australia New Zealand Marine Biotechnology Society are holding a
SA Marine Biotechnology Public Seminar this Thursday.

The keynote speaker will be Dr Tadashi Matsunaga, who is President of Agriculture and Technology at Tokyo University and
a Past President of the International Marine Biotechnology Society (IMBA)

Dr Matsunaga will speak on “Marine biotechnology R&D and industry development in Japan”.

He was born in Tokyo in 1949, completed a degree in Synthetic Chemistry, and obtained doctoral qualifications in Biotechnology, at Tokyo Institute of Technology.

After studying as a Research Associate in Miami (USA), he returned to Japan to be Associate Professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.

AusBiotech will hold the International BioFest 2016 in Melbourne in less than two weeks, where life sciences experts from leading higher education institutes will present their research to delegates from around the world.

Meanwhile, Professor Wei Zhang, Director of the Centre for Marine Bioproducts Development, Flinders University, will present at the International BioFest 2016 in Melbourne tomorrow (Wednesday 26 October).

His topic will be: Australia national marine science plan: putting marine biotechnology and bioproducts into the economic agenda at the 17th International Biotechnology Symposium (IBS 2016).
