Social Work and Community Development forum attracts Adelaide’s finest practitioners

carolin-curtisOn 3 November more than 90 people attended the Social Work & Community Development In The 21st Century forum at Flinders’ Tonsley precinct.

Organised by Flinders University, City of Onkaparinga, Red Cross, SACOSS and the University of South Australia, the forum brought together seven outstanding Social Work practitioners to show case contemporary community development (CD) practice in Adelaide.

Keynote speaker Carolyn Curtis (pictured presenting), from TACSI, spoke of the innovative work being undertaken with families, using co-design practices, to build on family and community strengths.

Other speakers included practitioners from Southern Domestic Violence, DECD, City of Onkaparinga, Seeds of Affinity, Together SA, Community Health Onkaparinga and City of Mitcham.

presentationThe presentations were a timely reminder that CD is alive and well and that taking time to listen to people and develop relationships, being creative and innovative are at the core of building individual and community resilience.
