20 years of making a difference to rural communities

Flinders will celebrate 20 years of making a difference to Riverland communities this Friday at a special event marking two decades of the Parallel Riverland Rural Communities Curriculum (PRCC).

The PRCC, run by Flinders Rural Health South Australia (formerly Flinders University Rural Clinical School or FURCS), was created as an extension of the Flinders Rural Health unit.

It is the result of a pioneering approach towards longitudinal Community based Medical Education (CBME) that has fostered growth and development to a point where it now encompasses not only medical education, but also nursing and health sciences education, cutting-edge research, and clinical services across rural and regional South Australia.

The curriculum is one of the key ways in which Flinders Rural Health SA continues to empower regional communities through leadership, collaboration, capacity-building and innovative community-based health education, research and clinical service.

The 20-year celebration, at Twenty Third Street Distillery, Renmark, will be attended by past and present Riverland PRCC students, plus past and present clinicians, teachers and community members who have been involved in the program
