Re-imagining writing support in the university community

Staff and students will have the chance to gain insight into writing support at eight different higher education institutions in North America at the next meeting of the Community of Practice for Writing at Flinders University.

During the meeting Associate Professor Karen Vered will share findings from her recent field trip to Oregon and California, where she explored writing and teaching practices at a range of institutions.

These included two-year community colleges, private liberal arts colleges and top-ranked public research universities.

The event is titled: “Re-imagining Writing Support within the University Community: Hubs, Studios, & Programs”.

When: Wednesday 31 May, 1pm-2pm

Where: Studio 1 (on the north side of Grind & Press), Professional Services Building, Flinders University, Bedford Park campus

Associate Professor Vered will talk about writing centres, studio pedagogy, and the coordination of support services with curricular programs and personnel.

She will also report on the outcomes of her interviews with staff and students and her observations on the wide range of practices employed by educational providers to respond to the diversity among the student population.

The meeting is open to all Flinders staff, students, career counsellors, researchers and teachers.
