World opens for Foundation Studies graduates

The 7th Completion Ceremony for graduates of the Flinders Foundation Studies Program has taken place at Bedford Park.

As a result of the program, graduates have been guaranteed entry to 14 undergraduate degree programs at Flinders and now have the academic skills necessary to pursue their tertiary studies with confidence.

Students wearing academic gowns and mortarboards received their Certificates of Completion from Associate Professor Salah Kutieleh, Director of the Transition Office, and Professor Clare Pollock, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) and Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic).

Two Flinders students, one former Foundation Studies student and one current Foundation Studies student, inspired the audience with their moving life stories and explained how the program has changed their lives.

Current student, Chel Maiker-Watson, gave a presentation in which she said, “The Flinders Foundation Studies Program has had a profoundly important impact on my life… it has put me firmly in the driver’s seat with regards to my education and it has empowered me to take greater risks, not only in my education, but in my life. It has become life affirming, literally the air in my lungs.”

The Completion Ceremony has become an important part of the Foundation Studies Program, allowing the achievements of successful graduates to be recognised by Flinders and TAFE staff and students’ families, friends and loved ones.

As a result of the Flinders Foundation Studies Program, thousands of students have entered degree programs at Flinders and some have since completed PhDs.

Moe information about the Foundation Studies Program is available from the Foundation Studies website.
