It doesn’t take rocket science to reach for the stars

Expressions of interest are sought from students in a national university rocket competition that the Australian Youth Aerospace Association (AYAA) is hoping to run in 2018.

The competition will challenge student teams to design, build, test and launch a high-powered rocket to 10,000 feet, with the goal of getting as close as possible to the target altitude.

No previous rocket-engineering experience is required in order to participate.

In addition to launching their rocket, each team will be required to submit documentation regarding their design, manufacturing and safety process, which will be assessed by a panel of aerospace industry judges.

The rocket-launching competition itself will be held in South Australia.

The AYAA is currently seeking expressions of interest from students who would be keen to participate in this competition next year.

A five-minute survey comprising 10 questions has been compiled to gauge enthusiasm for the competition and assess potential applicant numbers.

The survey can be completed via the AYAA website.
