Wake up and smell the coffee

Meet the fun-loving team behind the newest coffee vendor at Flinders, the Local Brew Coffee House, which specialises in roasted coffee from the Adelaide Hills as well as gourmet baked pastries and sweets.

Located in the courtyard of Law and Commerce at the Bedford Park campus, Local Brew launched in September 2017 as part of the campus-wide changes to retail, food and drinks.

Manager of Local Brew, Stacey Sheridan, is not only head barista but also co-owner of the business and a Flinders alumna.

She is joined behind the counter by Ocky, Sarah, Danieka and Simona.

What’s on offer

Local Brew offers homemade food for staff and students on the go, including the famous Flinders vegan pies, Adelaide Hills dairy produce, alternative milks, juices and bottled water.

Small coffees costs $3.80, sweets range from $2.00-$6.00 and lunches are available for $9.00.

Gluten-free, dairy-free and halal options are also available.

Locally-sourced ingredients are used as much as possible and environmentally-friendly packaging is prioritised.

Special deals

Staff and students can get their eighth coffee for free using their Local Brew loyalty card.

Customers who bring their own mug get a 30 cent discount on their coffee, and a range of coffee mugs are also for sale.

Service with a smile

Local Brew Manager, Stacey Sheridan, says that the team prides itself on delivering friendly service.

“We like to have a chat with our customers and learn how to make their coffee just the way they like it.

“We love the Flinders campus and we love the Flinders people.

“We enjoy seeing our regulars and getting to know new faces, and greatly appreciate all the positive feedback we have received to date,” says Stacey.

Sister outlet

From time to time staff from the popular Café Bon Voyage in the Laneway come to assist their Local Brew colleagues.

“Café Bon Voyage is a sister outlet to Local Brew,” Stacey explains.

“Both outlets are co-owned and operated by Gourav (Ravi) and myself, and we couldn’t run our business without our superstar team.

“Café Bon Voyage has been operating on campus for almost four years now and when the opportunity arose for us to expand, it was an offer too good to refuse.

“We made the decision to create Local Brew as a way to provide more variety and choice on campus as we have a different offering to Café Bon Voyage,” Stacey says.

Opening hours

Local Brew Coffee House is open Monday-Friday from 8.00am-4.00pm and is located in the Law and Commerce Building on the North Ridge.

Staff and students can stay up-to-date with the latest menu lines and specials by following the Local Brew Facebook page.
