End of ‘A Thousand Journeys’

Staff and students are invited to attend a floortalk with art collector and advocate Helen Read on 11 February to commemorate the conclusion of the powerful exhibition, A Thousand Journeys: The Helen Read Collection.

Hosted by the Flinders University City Gallery since 25 November 2017, the exhibition captures a transformative period in Aboriginal Australian art and showcases more than 60 late 20th century paintings by some of Australia’s most celebrated Aboriginal artists.

These artists include Rover Thomas, Queenie McKenzie, Kitty Kantilla, Eubena Nampitjin and David Malangi.

A Thousand Journeys: The Helen Read Collection is a travelogue of Read’s earliest trips out bush, which began more than thirty years ago, and reflects the efflorescence of contemporary Aboriginal art practice and its ongoing resonance in the present day.

The exhibition has been part of TARNANTHI: Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art, presented by the Art Gallery of South Australia in partnership with BHP and with support of the Government of South Australia.

The floortalk will take place at the Flinders University City Gallery on Sunday 11 February 2018 from 2.00pm-3.00pm.
