Is social media killing girlhood?

This is the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day Luncheon in Adelaide, which will be held on 8 March 2018 and will include the announcement of four International Women’s Day awards.

The Luncheon will also celebrate the 80th anniversary of International Women’s Day being recognised in South Australia.

A diverse panel of speakers will be in attendance to discuss the impact of social media on the self-image of young women and girls.

The four awards that will be announced during the Luncheon include:

  1. The Young Women’s Community and Spirit Award, which recognises a young South Australian woman aged 12-30 years.
  2. The Irene Bell Award, which recognises service to women in South Australia.
  3. The Irene Krastev Award, which recognises a woman from a migrant or refugee background who has made a significant contribution to her community.
  4. The Barbara Polkinghorne Memorial Award, which recognises a distinguished woman writer.

Nominations are open now for all of these awards, which seek to promote ordinary women who are doing extraordinary things.

Further information on how to book tickets to the 2018 International Women’s Day Luncheon, as well as how to nominate an outstanding South Australian woman for one of the above awards, is available now from the International Women’s Day Association of South Australia website.
