Body image challenged in first of new event series

A journey to share different, innovative and courageous perspectives through exciting Flinders research will kick off next week, Tuesday 5 June, as the first Brave Flinders Research & Innovation Series event takes to the floor.

With the goal to inspire debate and encourage new ways of thinking in the community, the Brave series works towards Flinders mission to change lives and change the world – which can only be achieved through robust levels of courage and daring.

Which Body Fits?
In an age where fit is the new skinny, expectations of the ‘perfect body’ have reached a level of unattainability for the vast majority. Messages about what constitutes an ideal body and flawless image come from a multitude of sources and drive multibillion dollar industries in sales of magazines, clothes, cosmetics, food and even discretionary surgery.

Flinders University is proud to introduce the first public lecture in the 2018 Brave series, a discussion on the mental and physical effects of ‘perfect body’ aspirations and the ‘fitspiration’ movement.
