A diverse program of inspiring activities is being presented by Flinders over National Reconciliation Week 2018, which is themed Don’t Keep History a Mystery: Learn. Share. Grow.
National Reconciliation Week, over 28 May to 3 June 2018, marks two milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey; the 1967 referendum and the historic Mabo decision. It is an opportunity to reflect, consider and participate in Australia’s reconciliation journey – and celebrate the University’s commitment to reconciliation and Indigenous education.
Also inline with this week’s theme is the release of a set of free educational resources to broaden awareness of Australia’s Indigenous history and culture.
The series of infographics and animations has been created by the Australian Council of Deans of Education and the Australian Indigenous Lecturers in Initial Teacher Education, with all resources available to download or share online. The engaging resources were created to address the generally poor understanding of many Australians about fundamental aspects of the nation’s Indigenous history. (See Reconciliation Australia’s media release.)
Flinders at Tonsley is changing the colours of its top-level lights to those of the Aboriginal flag for the entire week, to mark the significant national event.
