Electrical testing scheduled over 9 – 18 July

As part of the University’s commitment to ensure its electrical network remains at its peak and meets all safety obligations, compliance testing of the approximately 10,000 safety switches located across Bedford Park will take place in early July.

The RCD units (residual-current devices, commonly known as safety switches) will be tested during the mid-year teaching break to minimise disruption to students and staff.

From Monday 9 July – Wed 18 July 2018 brief power outages have been planned for testing, each varying from 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

Personnel lifts or air conditioning will not be affected and there will be no impact on remote access, servers and IT, as data centres are supported via UPS. Emergency lighting will be in place.

Staff are advised to save work on PCs and laptops or autosave work prior to the outages.
