Student’s dash through the Flinders for youth

First-year education student Adam Chambers is in the final throes of preparation for an intense 1350km run in the Flinders Ranges and beyond, a challenge that will see him complete an ultra-marathon every day over 19 days to raise money for South Australian youth in need.

Mr Chambers is completing the challenge, coined ‘The Heysen 1350’, to support Operation Flinders Foundation’s long-running wilderness therapy program for young people who are in danger of disengaging with their education, employment and positive futures.

His journey will commence on 13 August and follow the epic landscapes of the Heysen Trail and Northern Flinders Ranges to Yankannina Station base camp, where the Foundation operates its program.

Mr Chambers expects to be challenged mentally and physically as he pushes his body to its limits to raise money for his passion –“investing in youth so they may enter the world as young adults with the skills, knowledge and education to benefit society.”

The trip builds on his earlier 3,300 km walk across New Zealand, where he trekked on his own from Bluff on the South Island, to Cape Reinga on the North Island.

He acknowledges a crew will be critical to the success of this mission and has rallied a loyal assembly who will operate out of a support vehicle as they accompany the ambitious athlete over 13 August through to around 2 September 2018.

Volunteer photographer or videographer sought

Mr Chambers and his support crew are also hoping to recruit a volunteer with photography or videography skills, who may be interested in assisting for all or part of the venture as an opportunity to add to their portfolio and take part in a unique activity while supporting South Australian youth in need.

Staff who know of appropriate students are asked to pass on the information; food and sleeping equipment will be provided. Find out more at Mr Chambers’ donation page or contact him on 0402 497 416.
