Indulge in Latino flicks at Vic Square

Flinders University will host the Latin American Film Festival in Adelaide this November, with 14 contemporary films to be screened free of charge weeknights at Victoria Square, including opening night on Friday 2 November featuring The Claim.

Staff are invited to join interested members of the community and immerse themselves in some of the most exciting and creative productions to reach the big screen in recent years, including international award-winning pieces.

The 14th Latin American Film Festival is presented by the Latin American Embassies and will screen in Adelaide at Flinders University Victoria Square from 2 to 16 November 2018.

One film will screen each weeknight, with doors opening at 6:15pm and films commencing at 6:30pm. All films will be shown in original language with subtitles in English.

Opening night will commence slightly earlier at 6pm for networking and nibbles, prior to the festival’s official opening by Vice President and Executive Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Professor Vanessa Lemm, together with Head of Mission for Embassy of El Salvador, Mr David Cruz.

Registration is required for all films, including the opening night event.

About opening night film The Claim:

Monsignor Oscar Arnulfo Romero, Archbishop of San Salvador, was assassinated in 1980 by death squads. In 2013, Pope Francis initiated his canonisation, which was a stormy process that divided institutions.

Monsignor Romero played a key role in denouncing human rights violations of the most vulnerable people in El Salvador. In his honour, the United Nations now celebrates International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims, on 24 March each year.
