Naval Shipbuilding College guests visit Tonsley

A Naval Shipbuilding College visit to Tonsley was held on Thursday 11 October 2018, where guests met with Professor John Spoehr and toured the ‘Factory of the Future’ and Flinders’ Maritime Lab together with viewing the robotics, rehab and motion analysis, fibre optics and hexapod resources.

The visitors from HII Newport News in Virginia were interested in improving their awareness and general knowledge of the programs of study available in Australia, with the three-hour tour also supporting the needs assessment that the Naval Shipbuilding College will be undertaking. Professor Karl Sammut, Tony Kyriacou and Professor Deborah West joined the delegation.

Flinders University is a member of the Defence Industry Education & Skills Consortium, whose members have all been confirmed as preferred providers to the Naval Shipbuilding College.

Meanwhile in Paris last week a Flinders University team including Professor Sammut and Mr Kyriacou caught up with Steven Marshall at Euronaval, the premier European naval conference and expo.
