Supporting healthy bodies and minds

The Work Health and Safety unit conducted a survey on Flinders’ Health and Wellbeing program earlier this year, which revealed not all employees are aware of the University’s resources to support staff.

Together with staff discounts for health insurance and salary-sacrificed gym membership, Flinders offers a range of resources and services focused on staff health and wellbeing, with many of these delivered through the year-round Health and Wellbeing program.

Flinders’ Health & Wellbeing program provides a range of activities to help support both the physical and mental health of staff and empower them in their lifestyle choices. Employee’s good management of their health – including mental health – delivers benefits to personal lives, the workplace and the broader community, including students.

A calendar of events runs from February to December, delivering initiatives across four themes – healthier minds, healthier bodies, healthier culture and healthier places (environments). Many of these are run in collaboration with partners, including BUPA and Flinders Sport and Fitness.

Popular initiatives include the mental health seminars on targeted topics that are delivered several times a year, and the annual flu vaccinations in April. All coming initiatives are shared in Flinders in Touch.

View the Health and Wellbeing page to see the full calendar together with links to other internal and external resources, and keep an eye out for the Pedometer challenge – with registrations opening soon.

Staff may also be interested in University supports and services for students. Flinders contacts for staff who are concerned about the mental health of a student can be found here.
