Sporting achievements celebrated

Flinders University Sport and Fitness recently held its annual awards night, recognising achievement across its sporting clubs, Unisport athletes and elite athletes for 2019.

The event, held at the Alere Function Centre, celebrated a year of intense activity – with the achievements from those involved exceeding all expectations.

David Banks, Director Property, Facilities and Development – who is retiring at the end of this year – presented Matthew Miles (Flinders University Baseball) with the Bob Paddick Memorial award for his dedication to the sport and his support of its principles. Mr Miles has been with the baseball club for 30 years and is now retiring also.

Award winners for 2019:

Para Athlete of the Year – Caleb Crowden (Table Tennis)
Team of the Year – Men’s Basketball (Nationals Div2)
Female Athlete of the Year – Aleesha Robertson (Athletics)
Male Athlete of the Year – Riley Cocks (Athletics)
Bob Paddick Memorial Award – Matt Miles (Flinders University Baseball Club)
Club of the Year – Flinders University Ultimate Frisbee Club
A.E Mitchell Award – Sasha Carson (Flinders University Netball Club)
Volunteer of the Year – Nikki Fawcett (Flinders University Hockey Club)
