New scholarships announced

The Playford Trust has announced that student applications are open for its first eight university scholarships for 2021.

High-achieving students are encouraged to apply for this scholarship program, which aims to help them achieve their full potential and contribute to South Australia’s knowledge, skills and research base.

Applications for four Nyrstar/Playford Trust Scholarships offering paid work experience will be closing on 25 September. Valued at $10,000 per year for two years, these scholarships involve paid eight-week work placements at Nyrstar’s Port Pirie Smelter over the summer holiday, to work on technical projects, solve problems and apply knowledge in an industrial setting. The scholarships are available for students entering their third year of chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering in 2021.

One SA Power Networks/Playford Trust Scholarship valued at $7,000 is available for an undergraduate student entering their final year of an Electrical Engineering degree in 2021, studying power engineering or asset management. The scholarship offers summer holiday work experience, with the level of commitment to be negotiated between the successful student and SA Power Networks. Applications for this scholarship close on 25 September.

Three AusIMM/Playford Trust Minerals Industry Scholarships, valued at $9,000 each, are available to students in 2021 entering either Honours year in Geoscience, 4th year in Mining Engineering, 4th year in Chemical Engineering (Minerals Processing), or 4th year in Environmental Engineering.

Applications for these three scholarships, which close on 13 September, are made through the AusIMM Education Endowment Fund (EEF) Scholarship Program, and recipients of AusIMM/Playford Trust Minerals Industry Scholarships are selected by the Adelaide Branch of the AusIMM and the Playford Trust.

To be eligible for a Playford Trust scholarship, a student applicant must be an Australian citizen or a holder of a permanent resident visa, and resident in South Australia. Check the selection criteria for each scholarship to ensure eligibility.

Beyond these initial 2021 offers, the Playford Trust encourages students to join its mailing list to be informed about further opportunities once the full 2021 Scholarship Program is released.

Details of all scholarships can be found under the Scholarships tab on the Playford Trust website.
