Get your pitch perfect

The Conversation can now provide free one-hour training talks to academics about how and what to pitch when submitting to the increasingly popular publication.

Boasting more than 129,000 readers, articles in The Conversation are frequently picked up by the media, with stories permitted to be reproduced free of charge under its ‘Creative Commons’ licence.

For example, this recent article by PhD candidate Abel Fekadu Dadi and Dr Hailay Gesesew was reproduced by msn.com, boosting its reach around the world from Africa to the Philippines. On The Conversation, it quickly accumulated 234 shares including from 10 media outlets, with 1,450 reads on the original article alone in less than a week.

And strategic placement of an article on The Conversation to coincide with the publication of a PloS One article saw Associate Professor Jonathan Benjamin’s research on underwater Aboriginal heritage amass more than 160,000 reads, and help fuel coverage internationally.

Due to The Conversation’s impact, there is solid competition for content. So the editor training talks are a great resource to give academics and researchers the edge in their submissions. These can be delivered via Zoom, or in person where appropriate. There is no limit to the number of people who can attend.

Contact Susan Hornbeck for more information on the editor talks or to book one in.

Staff who register as authors with The Conversation have access to an enormous wealth of analytics, including data such as most popular sections and global reach.
