Gaming graduates debut first release

Three Flinders University creative arts alumni have released the demo of their eagerly awaited debut game Rooftop Renegade, after winning funding last year under the South Australian Government’s $300,000 Games Innovation Fund.

In 2018 Alex Ferrabetta, Patrick Webb and George Martin graduated together from the Bachelor of Creative Arts degrees (Visual Effects and Entertainment Design) and wasted no time establishing their own studio, Melonhead Games.

Last week they released the demo of Rooftop Renegade via leading games platform, Steam. A fast-paced action platform game, it requires players to evade capture as they race through time.

The Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Effects and Entertainment Design) is a collaboration between Flinders University and design school CDW Studios that has consistently ranked in The Rookies top ten global art schools for illustration for the past three years.

In 2020, the University partnership made the coveted best overall creative media and entertainment school list for the first time – debuting at number 15 – and rocketed to number four in the world for concept art and illustration, number six for 2D animation, and within the world’s top 20 schools for game design and visual effects.

Watch a preview of Rooftop Renegade below. The game is due for release in 2021.
